Rendez-vous with French Cinema : Miami

When one of my favorite movie theaters in Miami closed down for repairs last year, I was left with what I thought were two options : end abruptly my Sunday afternoons at the movies, or succumb to the large array of action films and romantic comedies at the nearest mall. Thankfully, I didn't have to pick one of these options after all, and neither should you.

The 19th edition of Rendez-Vous with French Cinema, an annual showcase of the best films in contemporary French cinema hosted by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and Unifrance films, is also present in Miami. This year's edition is made up of 24 feature films by established and emerging directors, bringing together France's most well-known actors such as Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Huppert, Romain Duris, and Audrey Tautou, but also emerging actors like Sara Forestier, Louise Bourgoin, and Vincent Macaigne.

The films presented are a great way to be introduced to France's modern cimena and to the talents that bring it to life. It also serves as a good opportunity to learn about independent theaters in Miami (and give you a break from watching yet another version of the Hangover).

A selection of these films (not all 24 unfortunately) shown in Miami below.

@ Bill Cosford Cinema (University of Miami)

- 2 automnes 3 hivers
- Au bout du conte
- Le Passé
- Tip Top
- Cinéast(e)s

@ Cinema Paradiso, Ft. Lauderdale & Hollywood theaters (all screenings)

The full selection of the films selected for Rendez-Vous with French Cinema can be found here.

You can also find all the French films that are released in the U.S on the frenchculture.org site of the French Embassy in the United States.
